Research on Classroom Management III

Implementation of Action

In both cycles (cycle 1 and 2), the researcher implemented the actions which had been planned. The researcher conducted the teaching and learning process as stated in every lesson plan. The actions were given in the form of writing assignments for different purposes and audiences.

In cycle 1, the researcher was to teach reading and writing skills. The material was recount texts. In developing reading skill, the researchers asked the students to read the text aloud, answer reading comprehension questions, and discuss the generic structure of the text. Then, the second half time of the meeting was aimed to teach writing. The researcher introduced the purpose and audience in writing. After that, the students were to write their own recount texts about their picnic experiences whose readers were their brothers or sisters. The two following meeting, the students had to write their picnic experiences whose reader was the headmaster of X. Before they started writing, the researcher reminded them about the purpose and audience in writing.

The second cycle was conducted in the following reading and writing class. The material was functional text “announcement”. Similar to the previous cycle, the researcher asked the students to read the announcement aloud and answer reading comprehension questions. When the time came for students to write their own announcements, the researcher directed the students to the awareness of the purpose and audience of the announcement. The topic of the announcement was school environment. The readers of the first announcement were schoolmates or classmates. The researcher assigned the students to write the second announcement whose readers were teachers of X in the two following meeting. The writing assignment was preceded by the review on the importance of purpose and audience awareness in writing.

English was taught twice a week, on Monday and Tuesday. Reading and writing skills were to be taught in one meeting in every week. The other meeting was for developing listening and speaking skills. Every cycle in this study required two meetings. Therefore, one cycle was finished in two weeks. Here is the research schedule covering two cycles of action implementation.

Observation

During the teaching and learning process both in cycle one and two, the researcher observed the implementation of the actions. The researcher acted as the English teacher who implemented the actions and the observer at the same time. The observation was recorded on field notes. The field notes consisted of some points to detect, they were: whether the students could understand the researcher’s explanations about purpose and audience in writing and whether the preparation before implementing the actions matched the students’ need in the class. This observation stage was to collect information about the action implementation process which was used as the basis of doing the next stage (Aqib, 2007: 31).

Analysis and Reflection

In classroom action research, data analysis is done to know whether the action conducted has succeeded in solving the problem. Data analysis done by the researcher in this study consisted of (1) identifying kinds of adaptation in the students’ writings based on audience and purpose awareness, (2) scoring the students’ writings based on a scoring rubric presented in Appendix 2, and (3) comparing the result of writing assignments with the indicator of success for the implementation of the actions. The result of analysis and reflection decides whether the researcher should continue or stop the actions in the study. If the result of the action implementation has met the indicator of success, the researcher can stop the actions. However, if the result has not met the indicator of success, the researcher has to continue the study to the next cycle by revising or improving the previous actions.

In cycle 1, the researcher concluded that the result of implementing the actions had not reached the indicator of success; therefore, he continued the study to the next cycle after doing some revisions and improvement on the action implementation. The result of analysis and reflecting stage in cycle 2 showed that the implementation of the action had met the indicator of success. It made the researcher stop the actions.

Tahukan Anda...

Love is not just an emotion or feeling that changes when the loved one changes, but rather, it is the act of choosing to do what is in the best interest of the loved one over the long haul whether s/he deserves it or not, despite the cost to oneself and without expecting anything in return.
