These is glossary of research key terms. This glossary is intended as an aid to professionals and non-professionals who find the world of research somewhat intimidating. While it is impossible to cover all the terms that can be confusing, this document briefly defines some of the more common terms and concepts.

Term Definition
Simple Random Sampling (SRS)
1. A sample in which the population is first divided into strata (classes of elements). Within each stratum, each element has an equal chance of being chosen for the sample. 2. this probability sampling method gives each eligible element/unit an equal chance of being selected in the sample; random procedures are employed to select a sample using a sampling frame.
 
Situated
Knowledge is situated where the context is a part of the meaning, making it difficult to transport or generalize. Things can be historically situated and socially situated.
 
Skewness(Interval/ratio level)
Measures the degree to which a variable approximates a normal curve. Mathematically it measures the deviation from symmetry. A 0 is completely symmetrical while a plus number is skewed to the right and a minus number is skewed to the left.
 
SkripsiSkripsi adalah karangan ilmiah yang wajib ditulis oleh mahasiswa sebagai bagian dari persyaratan akhir pendidikan akademisnya. Skripsi wajib dikerjakan oleh mahasiswa dengan tujuan agar mahasiswa tersebut dapat memahami dan mempraktekkan suatu  penelitian yang telah dipelajari selama dibangku perkuliahan, mengerjakan skripsi membutuhkan bantuan dari dosen pembimbing, tugas dari dosen pembimbing tersebut untuk memberi arahan dan petunjuk kepada mahasiswa dalam pengerjaan skripsinya serta menjadi konsultan dari mahasiswa tersebut agar mahasiswa dapat menghasilkan suatu skripsi yang sesuai dengan cara yang telah dibakukan dan sesuai dengan teori yang ada.
 
Snowball Sampling
1. A non-probability sampling scheme in which you begin by sampling one person, then ask that person for the names of other people you might interview, then interview them and obtain a list of people from them, and so on. 2. a non-probability sampling strategy whereby referrals from earlier participants are used to gather the required number of participants.
 
Specification
1. an outcome in using the elaboration modeling which the control variable identifies the conditions under which the relationship between the independent and dependant variables occurs. e.g. 2. outcome of elaboration in which the control variable specifies the conditions under which the relationship between the independent and dependent variables varies.
 
Speech Act theorySpeaking is acting. We are both stating and doing.
