professionals and non-professionals who find the world of research
somewhat intimidating. While it is impossible to cover all the terms
that can be confusing, this document briefly defines some of the more

| Surat Pembaca | Surat pembaca adalah tulisan yang dibuat oleh orang yang telah membaca suatu buku, majalah atau koran yang akan dikirimkan kepihak produksi/redaksi untuk memberikan respon mengenai suatu hal yang telah dibaca di buku atau majalah tersebut. |
| Survey | a research method using standardized questionnaires or interviews to gather data. |
| Survey research | A research approach designed to collect systematically descriptions of existing phenomena in order to describe or explain what is going on; data are obtained through direct questioning of a sample of respondents. |
| Synthetic statements | Statements which require evidence to prove them true. e.g. Roses are fragrant. (vs. analytic statements) |
| Systematic sampling | a probability sampling strategy involving the selection of participants randomly drawn from a population at fixed intervals (e.g. every 20th name from a sampling frame). |
| Tesis | Tesis adalah pernyataan atau teori yang didukung oleh argumen-argumen untuk dikemukakan, khususnya berupa karangan untuk mendapatkan suatu gelar kesarjanaan pada suatu universitas. Tesis merupakan hasil dari studi yang sistematis atas masalah, tesis mengandung metode pengumpulan, analisis dan pengolahan data, dan menyajikan kesimpulan serta mengajukan rekomendasi. |
