These is glossary of research key terms. This glossary is intended as an aid to
professionals and non-professionals who find the world of research
somewhat intimidating. While it is impossible to cover all the terms
that can be confusing, this document briefly defines some of the more
common terms and concepts. | |

| Term | Definition |
| Game Theory | Simplification of human behaviour to a series of games that can be modelled, often mathematically. Includes games of 'chicken', 'Prisoners' dilemma' and the Nash equilibrium. Closely related to economics. |
| Gamma | Measure of association appropriate when both of the variables consist of ordered categories. |
| Generalizing | Extending a concept proven in one area to others areas. |
| Grounded theory | A research approach used to develop conceptual categories/theory about social processes inductively from real-world observations (data) from a selected group of people. The researcher may subsequently make further observations to test out the developed categories/theory. |
